The New Commitment?
Maybe it's just me, but I really thought that the days of tattin up ya current boo snatch's name anywhere on your body was over. Have we, as a people, not learned that most shit don't last? Most shit won't last? Most shit CAN'T last??? The state of Black relationships is already in a bad way, so I get it when we're extra hyped to be in a relationship and be in love, and feel something that appears to be longer lasting than a few hours, days, weeks, months, etc. But do we not learn from others who have made this mistake and now need to find various ways of coverup or removal? We all know at least ONE dude or woman who has a lover's name, nickname, streetname, or pet name somewhere on them.
And maybe I'm too jaded about relationships right now, but I just would not dare to get something permanent like a tat of said boo snatch's name on this beautiful brown skin. Does this make me pessimistic? Does this make my faith in my own ability to sustain relationships and be with men who can sustain a relationship shaky? I guess so, but you know what? I am completely fine with that. Even post-marriage, your name is not getting inked anywhere on this, I repeat, beautiful brown skin; I promise you. Now, I will admit, I was somewhat flattered when my ex mentioned getting my full name tatted on him. His hood booga way of showing me more love, of course. But, I also expressed to him time and time again, that it wasn't necessary, nor was it wanted/OK that he do this. Not because I didn't love him to pieces and want to be with him for "FO' EVA," but because I don't need all that, dear. You got me, and we know what it is (right now). The end. Did he do it anyway?
.......
Anyway.....this seems to be really what's hot, and not a fading trend. Are you guilty?

...56?
Teenager claims she only wanted three tattoos (on her face) ...and woke up at 5am with this:
56 stars, all over her damn face, to be exact. She said she went to sleep so she wouldn't feel the pain, and woke up while ol' boy was tattooing more shit on her nose. Tattoo artist claims that this is what she wanted, but blamed it on him when her dad and his friend saw the tats, and freaked. Artist said he doesn't use hypnosis or drugs during the process. He says ol' girl knew what was up? She's now charging him with assault and battery
My concern is: HOW DO YOU FALL ASLEEP WHILE GETTING A TATTOO, FOOL?!?!? Like, really? Are we supposed to believe that? And, on your FACE?!?!? Really? We are supposed to feel sympathy, for someone who claims to have sat through 56 tattoos ON HER FACE?!? No. I'm sorry. I ain't got it today, boo. Or tomorrow.
Who do hell do you believe?

13 year old Alfie is NOT the father of this baby. I know y'all heard the story. I repeat, he is NOT the father, of his 15 year old girlfriend, Chantelle's, baby. My issue does lie in the fact that these young ass kids or having unprotected sex (well, not that I don't have an issue with it; I'm just not surprised) Anyway...my issue is that these MINORS are plastered ALL OVER THE INTERNET, in publicity ploys all over the damn world.
I guess the shock to the world is that a 13 year old had supposedly fathered the child as opposed to an older teenager or legal adult, which is typically the case. Why are their parents OK with this? Why is he everywhere, and she is not? (Not that I want her plastered places, as well but...c'mon) This is not cute; it's sad and these childrens' parents should be embarrassed.
And I'm pissed.

Us vs. Them
On the topic of race and ethnicity, [Aaron] McGruder said that to him, Obama is not black because he is not a descendant of a slave. “The person who is one of us in the White House is Michelle Obama and her momma,” [Aaron] McGruder said.
(Aaron McGruder is the creator of the popular political extremist satire, "The Boondocks")
What do you think?? Are we really still in the place of the "us, them" mentality? With the OBAMAS, of all people?

Umm, Excuse Me. What Did You Just Say?
So...while celebrating NYE in all it's glory last night (really, this morning) I was struck by a few things said to me over the course of the night that make me think...
When is it OK to laugh off inappropriate commentary? Especially coming from males? And when is it important to care enough to say something?
While dancing (which I did a TON of, which is not surprising if you know me), this "dude" (I wish I could call him a gentleman) approaches me, and watches me dance with a friend. Says nothing, just watches for maybe...10 seconds. I turn to him, to which he responds with a smile, "I like that."
OK. I mean, I'm glad you like. I wore this, so you, and others would like. "Dude" proceeds to look and smile, then asks me for a dance, while taking my hand. I ask him something to the effect of, "Where are we going? Are you kidnapping me?" He said yes, and proceeded to guide me toward another area of the room we were already in.
We commence to dancing, bumpin, gettin low, whatever your fantasy. I ask "dude" his name (quick comment: I typically do not like talking while dancing, because it's small talk and dudes almost NEVER say the right things, case in point. However, sometimes I talk so that I control the conversation.) to which he says something I couldn't hear then gives me his "street name." OK. I tell him my name and go back to dancing.
"Dude" then proceeds to form these words and have the nerve to say them to me (not verbatim): "Damn girl, you can dance. I bet you can fuck, too."
Really, though? Is THAT the conversation you want to have with me right now? Is that what's hot in these streets nowadays? Now, part of me, a large part, wanted to respond defensively, and tell him how inapprop that is to say to a lady. Part of me would like to do the night over, and respond accordingly. However, what I did do, was laugh, say "wow, it's like that?" and continue to dance.
Shocked? Surprised?
Would you have done something different?
The reason I did this is because...I really didn't / don't care. Sometimes we give others the power to make us so upset, the power to get us so riled up...but for what? I wasn't in the mood to teach any lessons. He did not call me out of my name, and yes, his comment was immature, insensitive and raunchy. Eh - whatever. But clearly, I had no plans on engaging in anything with him past this dance, so why get mad? And me saying anything to him likely would not have changed anything, either. This, was apparently his swag. And that's cool. That's him. And I guess that has worked in the past for him. Swags are not meant to be compatible. You got yours; I got mine.
Minutes later....he proceeds to ask the "boyfriend in the room" questions, to which I explain to him that I'm single and here with friends. "Dude" then says (verbatim): "You a dyke?" No boo, I'm not. Then I made a joke that if I was a lesbian (and I said, lesbian) that my girl would be the friend I attended with. To which "dude" replies: "I bet you I'll eat ya pussy better than her." I guess he was trying to assert his manhood to me. Good job.
Wow. Again? Damn! Really, though? Which were the exact words I used, and proceeded to make my not so smooth getaway toward another friend.
I only write about this because I've been thinking about it alot. No, not "dude." But...the approach of men these days in an effort to get names, contact information, and eventually...sex. I can't speak to how / where men learn how to deal with women, but I can speak to how women handle the approach of men. My response last night was dependent on my mood. Which was very good and I didn't want to ruin it.
I tend to laugh things off that don't matter to me, and that I don't think apply to me. Kind of like laughing in your face, but not. So tell me, is this approach just another method of perpetuating the problem?

Suga Nuggets. Really, Though?
So, 90's R&B singer and tryna be a comback kid Keith Sweat is endorsing the 25th anniversary of McDonald's Chicken McNuggets. So there is a REAL song with him declaring his love for McNuggets like he was talkin to his boo snatch or somethin'. Not like my favorite commercial, but a REAL SONG!
Wow McDonald's. Killin me this quarter! And I can't even be mad at them, cuz at 1100am on the dot, I'm takin' my butt right over to Mickey D's and coppin a 10 piece nugget with sweet & sour sauce. Yup.
Link below is to his website, on the page where his "new hit" is playing...enjoy!

Where Is He?
Does this question sound familiar?
Have you heard you friends say this?
Have you heard women on TV say this?
Have you heard you friends say this?
Have you heard women on TV say this?
The infamous, "WHERE IS HE?" question runs rampant, and I must say, especially in the Black community because we're apparently pressed for good men! (Or so they say...the gender ratio is a whole 'nother post y'all) But anyway, many women find themselves asking themselves, their friends and their family this very question. And, trust, this question doesn't go away until they find "him!" And the longer he takes, the longer the question stands, and the more we begin to doubt ourselves or take a microscope to missed chances of the past...
I have a few friends who ask this question. Some way seriously, some only in times of sadness. But..they ask. Hey, I've even thought about the question before. But then I find myself getting too upset to even dare indulge it. Cuz honestly, this question annoys me. In fact, lately, it's actually pissed me off. I roll my eyes at the question. In the words of a good friend, "I spit" at this damn question. And I am very concerned at the increasing rates of Black women asking this question.
The # of women that I come across that have been pinned down by, cut down by, sent into psychological distress by, and dependent on this question to define themselves scares me. Now, I'm not saying not to be a fan of love and not to want to be in love and have someone love you. In my current situation, you KNOW I can't even go there! I am ALL about love! And I can only wish that every single person in this world could experience 14% of the feelings of love that I have for someone, and they'd be good in this area! But...I digress.
Anyway, my response to this question from now on, is (obviously not with clients):
Where are YOU?
Forget where he is. Forget what he's doing. Forget the fact that he's driving you mad and crazy, making you wait on him. Where are YOU in YOUR life, where you can't seem to function properly without him or the prospect of him? Where are YOU where you find yourself complaining about being unhappy with life because you're single or have been single for too long for it to be doing any good? Where are YOU with YOURSELF when you become dependent on another person (whoever that person may be) for you to shine through, do your thing, and have your own? Why are you waiting for him? What has he promised you, that you can only get from him?
I'll tell you what he HASN'T promised you, boo. He has NOT said that he would make you completely happy. He has NOT said that with him, you will be successful in the most important respects to you. He has NOT told you that with him, you will feel complete. Shit, he ain't even tell you he's on his way! He canNOT grant you that education, or that experience that you're getting. He has NOT promised to provide for you (or your family) upon his arrival.
So, please tell me, what are you really waiting for? And before you answer, look up the Cinderalla complex. Then look up the Prince Charming complex. Interpret what you find. Interpret what that means to you. Let it sink in that this is real world, and you must have your own. We're in a recession. Can't play no games!
Just thinkin on the keyboard...

Throwback
Yo, do you remember the episode of Family Matters where there was gang and gun activity and Laura's best friend, Maxine, got shot in the parking lot for her flyy sneakers?
There are always those awkward episodes of sitcoms when they try to be real real serious and let the world know about some societal issues i.e. drugs, violence, STD's, eating disorders, relational aggression, rape, etc.
Personally, they need to just leave it to Lifetime movies...

Pronounce "Le - A," I Dare You.
This email from a good friend made my day. Then...it made me sad:
SO, if you see something like this come across your desk, please remember to pronounce the dash.
I just don't understand. I just don't get it. How do we know when creativity has gone too damn far?
So...it's pronounced 'Ledasha.' Oh yes...you read it right.
THE DASH IS NOT SILENT.
This child attends a school in Livingston Parish. (Louisiana) Her mother is irate because everyone is getting her daughter's name wrong. When the mother was asked about the pronunciation of the name, she said 'the dash don't be silent.'
